Description Block 17

Author: Jacopo Berengario da Carpi (1446-1530). Book: "Isagogae breues, perlucidae ac uberrimae, in anatomiam humani corporis a communi medicorum academia usitatam." Date: 1523. These illustrations may be the first showing the heart valves.  Some say the woodcuts in this work were done by Hugo da Carpi.  Berengario was said to have been very proud of dissecting several hundred bodies to study anatomy. Some of his detractors claimed that he dissected some living bodies!
