Medical Xylography Description Block 59

Notes: There are a number of pamphlets in the German National Museum showing the evolution of this woodcut in a series of 70 pamphlets over approximately a 70 year period. These date from the early 1500s to the 1570s. This block is likely from the 1540s or so. By comparing the print with the other in the Munich collection, one can see how the blocks were recarved over the years. Below are some examples of the blocks in the Munich Collection:
